Design and Construction
The planning and concept design phases were completed in mid 2008. Construction of the new pipeline commenced in September 2008 and construction works were undertaken at a number of locations along the route concurrently to ensure timely project completion. All construction works are planned to be completed, with water available for irrigation of the Park Lands, by mid-2010.
While traffic flows were maintained where possible, some disruptions to traffic and access were possible during construction. To minimise any disruptions, the CityGreen team provided regular information on the planned construction activities. The CityGreen team visited those residents and businesses located directly adjacent to the pipeline route in the weeks prior to construction commencing. These households and businesses also received a notice in the days before construction with further information on any temporary access and car parking restrictions.
In the West Torrens area, pipeline construction commenced from the Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant. In the Park Lands, a minimum of two construction teams operated concurrently. The construction schedule was developed in consultation with stakeholders to ensure that it did not conflict with existing major events and activities planned in these areas.
