What is Recycled Water?
The recycled water used in this project will come from the existing Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant. A new wastewater treatment facility will be built next to the existing plant to receive the water. The new facility will utilise a mixture of ultrafiltration membranes, ultraviolet disinfection and chlorine disinfection to ensure that the water is safe for use in the Park Lands.
Recycled water is subject to strict quality standards. While the water for this project generally has a higher salt content than drinking water, it is perfectly suitable for managed irrigation of parks and open spaces.
SA Water has already helped to develop an innovative recycled water project at the new residential development at Mawson Lakes. For more information on this visit the SA Water website.
